Tavern Los Angeles

I am a big fan of Million Dollar Decorator on Bravo. I have watched the episodes repeatedly, I hope they come back for a second season. One of my favourites was Jeffrey Alan Marks. The restaurant, Tavern he designed was featured on the show so I made a mental note as a wish list of mine to visit it if i ever go to LA again (not that I go there often).

I was supposed to be on transit in San Francisco when my flight in Melbourne was delayed for 7 hours, causing me to miss my connection to SF. Air New Zealand has diverted me to Los Angeles with a layover of 12 hours. Long story short, I was beyond pissed because I had to unnecessarily transit in Chicago and then to Orlando. I had no jacket for Chicago weather.

Well, when life give you lemon, make lemonade. That's what I did. I booked into a hotel in Santa Monica (because that is the only area I'm familiar with in LA) and coincidentally from my iPhone Google's map. Tavern in Brentwood was not that far away. It took me 15 minutes to walk there and being in the restaurant was a surreal experience. All that I have seen on TV, I was experiencing it at that moment.

Bose CineMate SR 1

I am looking forward to going to the US in a few weeks time. If you are from Australia, no trip to the US is complete without a stop at a Bose store. The price there is a fraction of what the price in Australia. I am looking to purchase the new CineMate 1 SR home theatre system. I have rung the store in San Francisco to make sure that there is one in stock for me. Very exciting!

It is rare that I have an unhealthy obsession about something, when that happens, they are usually something that ticks all the boxes and me and hit me like a bolt of lighting.

Firmdale hotel designs do that to me.


Love the wallpaper





This is by far the most impressive work I have seen and I have gotten a lot of inspirations from looking at their designs. One thing I observed was 'breaking up' a noisy wallpaper with art or mirrors. I am still on a hunt for the perfect ones for my koi wallpaper.

I would love to have De Gournay fish wallpaper but after receiving a quote of about $10k to cover my foyer wall, I decided to go for a much cheaper alternative wallpaper by Rasch.

Rasch is a German brand and its quality is impeccable even for someone as impatient as me. It is my first time hanging wallpaper and I gotta say I was ambitious for attempting a wallpaper in somewhere so prominent in my home. I have learnt a lot from this and I'm sure I would do a much better job next time.

For all its worth, market price for wallpaper hanging is about $40 per roll, I spent 6 hours hanging 4 rolls and $160 for 6 hours of work is justified. It was no simple task!
